So the majority of my first week in Thailand has been a wild week by the water. Firstly i headed to Krabi to catch up with Sue (the girl I met in the Philippines) and attend her birthday bash, and then I went a little further North to Phuket to complete my PADI Advanced Diving certification.
I met Sue in Aonang, Krabi the morning after my arrival, and joined her and her friend on a boat over to neighbouring beach, Railay, for the day. After spending the day there I headed back to Aonang just as a storm was breaking out, making for a very wet, cold boat ride.
The following day was the event I had travelled down for, Sue’s birthday party on a pirate ship. We boarded the boat early afternoon, and set off toward the nearby limestone structures jutting out from the sea. It was a great day, enjoying time in the sea as well as relaxing on deck. The highlight of the trip was the sunset, creating a breath taking pink glow in the sky. This moment reached new heights when, on the opposite side of the sky, the full moon began to appear from behind a cloud. Both sights were incredible to see, and with them both occurring at the same time we felt blessed to be in the ideal location to watch.
On Monday I travelled to Phuket and was met by Tod (a friend of my Philippines dive instructor) who was to be my dive instructor and host over the next couple of days. Tod did a great job looking after me while I was in town, making sure I had an amazing time both in and out of the water.
We did five dives over the two days, the most incredible of these, for me, was the wreck dive. The wreck is between 30m (bottom) to 18m (top) below sea level, and has become home to such a variety and vast number of fish and other aquatic life. Floating above the wreck whilst countless schools of fish surrounded me was amazing and definitely a moment I won’t forget!
Another ‘Wow’ and ‘Wow’ again … The sunset and the moon at the same time – it must have been totally amazing! And the diving experience – it sounds and looks absolutely thrilling! xx
