My final two days in Australia were spent back on the Gold Coast in a town called Coolangatta. The Roxy Pro Surf Competition was taking place and I planned to watch this for a couple of days.

It turns out the weather had other ideas, the competition being called off the first day I was there due to a lack of waves. Instead, the two other women in my room and I headed down to the beach for most of the day. We formed a great mix of nations and personalities, with one woman from Brazil, one from Philippines and myself from England. The amazing scenic views along the way spreading to the silhouetted high rise buildings of Surfers Paradise and beyond.

The three of us headed out together in the evening, enjoying the incredible full moon in the sky while we are ice cream and sorbets.

The second day we were in luck, the girl’s surfing would be on for the day. We got to watch some incredible skills, one of the highlights of the day being when a dolphin joined ones of the surfers riding a wave!

It was a great high to end my time in Australia and I left with two great new friendships. Now once again it was time for a new chapter, boarding the plane to Auckland to begin my year of living in New Zealand.
